The Mid-Year Travel Reset: Where Do You Actually Want to Go Next?

Somewhere between the January resolutions and the December wrap-up, there's a quieter moment most of us walk right past. It's now, the exact middle of the year. The point where half of your plans have already happened, and the other half are still sitting there as good intentions.
Summer has arrived, everyone's vacation photos begin filling your social feeds, and suddenly you're wondering why your own travel plans still feel... uncertain.
Maybe you've saved dozens of Instagram posts. Maybe you've watched countless of TikToks. Maybe you've told yourself you'll "figure it out later". But later has a funny way of becoming next year.
If travel is one of those intentions you haven't touched yet, I want to invite you into a pause. Not a booking. Not a deadline. A reset.
Because here's what I've learned after years of planning journeys for women at meaningful moments in their lives: the women who travel deeper aren't the ones who move fastest. They're the ones who get quiet long enough to ask a better question.
Why Mid-Year Is the Real "New Year" for Travel
January travel planning is aspirational. You are dreaming with a blank calendar and a fresh sense of "this is the year".
July is honest.
By now, you actually know how your year is going. You know what's drained you and what's filled you back up. You know whether the last six months gave you enough of you or whether you've been running on empty and calling it productivity. That's not a reason to feel behind. It's the best possible information to plan from.
Planning now means:
Better pricing for 2026 travel
More hotel availability
Better flight options
Time to save intentionally
Less stress when it's time to book.
I always want you to understand the why behind a recommendation, so here it is: a mid-year reset works because you're no longer guessing. You're planning with data. Real, lived evidence of what your life has felt like. That's a far better foundation than a New Year's wish.
The Question Underneath "Where Should I Go?"
Most women start their travel planning with logistics. Flights, dates, budgets, "is this a good time to go to Italy?" All valid. But it's the wrong starting line.
Start With Longing, Not Logistics
The real question is almost never where. It's what am I actually hungry for?
Rest that goes bone-deep? a place that stretches how you see the world? A stretch of days where no one needs anything from you? A culture so different from your everyday that it wakes you up again?
When you name the hunger first, the destination gets obvious. Choose the destination first, and you can end up feeling like you missed the point.
A Mid-Year Travel Reset You Can Do This Weekend
You don't need a spreadsheet or a vision board. You need twenty honest minutes and a cup of something warm. Here's the reset I'd walk you through if we were sitting together.
Step One — Look Back Before You Look Ahead
Before you ask where you want to go, ask where you've already been—emotionally, this year. What have the last six months asked of you? What have you been carrying? You can't plan the trip you need until you're honest about the year you've actually had.
Step Two — Name the Feeling, Not Just the Place
Finish this sentence: "By the end of this year, I want to feel more ______." More rested. More alive. More curious. More like me. Whatever word rises up first is usually the true one. Write it down. That single word is your real travel brief.
Step Three — Choose Depth Over Distance
Here's where I'll gently push you, because it's the whole philosophy behind how I plan: the goal isn't to go farther. It's to go deeper. A slower trip with fewer stops, real conversations with locals, and time to actually absorb a place will change you more than a checklist of five cities in seven days ever will.
Here are other questions you could ask yourself:
Do I want cities, coastlines, mountains, or countryside? - Landscape shapes experience.
Am I looking for energy or peace? - Both are wonderful.
Do I want to travel solo, with friends, or with a hosted group? - The people you travel with can completely change the experience.
Do I want to check off landmarks or experience local culture? - Both have value.
A Quick Gut Check
If your dream trip is really a list of places to photograph and leave, pause. If it's a place you want to understand — the food, the people, the rhythm of a life different from yours — you're already thinking like a woman who travels deeper.
What "Traveling Deeper" Looks Like in Practice
Traveling deeper isn't a luxury upsell. It's a different intention.
It's staying in one region long enough that the woman at the café starts recognizing you. It's sitting down to a long lunch in the Alentejo countryside instead of speeding past it. It's letting a place teach you something instead of just entertaining you. That's the difference I build every single one of my journeys around—including the small-group Portugal 2027 interest list trip I'm hosting for women who want exactly this kind of experience.
You don't have to plan a trip like that alone. In fact, the whole reason I do this work is, so you don't have to. If you want to hear more about how I plan these journeys, you can always book a discovery call and we'll talk it through—no pressure, just clarity.
Your Clarity Is the First Booking
Here's the truth: you can't book a trip that matters until you're clear on what you actually want it to do for you. Clarity comes first. The destination follows.
That's exactly why I put together the 2026 Destination guide—and it's not another listicle of trendy places. It's a tool to help you match a destination to the feeling you named in your reset. It walks you through where to go based on what you're truly craving this year, so your next trip isn't just a nice escape—it's the right one.
