Where to Travel in 2026/2027 Based on Your Travel Style

Not every trip changes you. But the right one will. Whether you crave slow mornings in a centuries-old city, vibrant cultural celebrations, or quiet reflection by the sea - there's a destination calling your name in 2026-2027. Here's how to find it.

Not every trip changes you. But the right one will.

Here's what I've come to believe after years of helping women plan travel that actually means something to them: the destination matters less than the match. The best trip you'll ever take isn't necessarily the most IG or TikTok one... it's the one that fits who you are, what you need, and what you're ready to experience.

Not every destination is meant for every season of life. Some trips are about slowing down. Some are about expansion. Some are about celebration. Some are about reconnecting with yourself after years of burnout, routine, or survival mode.

That's exactly why I put together my free guide, Travel Redesigned: Where to Go in 2026. It's a thoughtfully curated collection of 10 destinations that aren't just beautiful. They are intentional. Each one is an invitation to a different kind of meaningful travel experience, from slow and reflective to vibrant and deeply immersive.

But before you dive into the guide, let's figure out where in the world is actually calling your name right now.

First, What Kind of Traveler Are You Right Now?

Before we talk about destinations, let's talk about you - because who you are as a traveler in 2026 might be completely different from who you were in 2019. Life shifts. Our needs shift. And the kind of trip that restores you one year might not be what you need the next.

Take a breath and ask yourself:

-> Do I want to be moved, or do I want to slow down?

-> Am I craving community and celebration, or solitude and reflection?

-> Do I want to feel like a witness to a culture, or a participant in it?

Your answers will guide everything... the country, the season, even the pace of your itinerary. Below, I've broken down five travel styles and matched each one to destinations worth your time and your passport in 2026 and 2027.

The destination matters. But how you want to experience the destination matters even more.

The 5 Travel Styles - And Where to Go for Each

1. The Soul Seeker: You Travel to Be Transformed

You don't want a checklist trip. You want to come home different. More grounded, more open, maybe even a little undone in the best way. You're drawn to ancient spiritual sites, wellness traditions, and landscapes that feel like they hold something sacred.

You also want mornings that feel unhurried. Neighborhood cafes. Long dinners. Local culture. Moments that actually stay with you after you get home.

Where to Go: Kyoto Japan or Oaxaca, Mexico

Kyoto in spring or fall is nothing short of soul medicine. The moss gardens of Ryoan-ji, the bamboo forests of Arashiyama, the quiet rituals of a traditional tea ceremony - these aren't just tourist moments. They're invitations to be present in a way that's hard to find in everyday life.

Oaxaca is another world entirely. It's earthy, spiritual, and alive with the kind of color and ceremony that makes you feel like you've stepped into a story. If you're able to time your visit around Dia de los Muertos, it will genuinely shift something in you.

Other destinations that will offer slow, intentional travel are:

  • Portugal

  • Morocco

  • Thailand

  • Costa Rica

These destinations reward travelers who want depth over speed. Life-changing travel.

2. The Culture Collector: You Travel to Understand

You eat at the local spots no one photographed. You wander neighborhoods that don't show up on travel blogs. You come home with stories, not just souvenirs. You want to understand how a place actually lives - its history, its tensions, its everyday rhythms.

Some travelers feel most alive when a destination feels layered and vibrant. You want local markets, history, architecture, movement, street life, and sensory experiences. You don't necessarily want rest. You want immersion.

Where to Go: Accra Ghana or Lisbon, Portugal

Accra is having a moment and it's well deserved. Ghana's capital is dynamic, creative, and deeply proud of its heritage. From the art galleries of the Jamestown neighborhood to the powerful history found at Cape Coast Castle, this is a city that rewards curiosity. The food scene, the music, the fashion... it's an education in the best possible way.

Lisbon, on the other hand, offers something quietly profound. It's a city that has seen empires rise and fall, and it carries all of that kind of graceful melancholy called saudade. The Alfama district, the Fado music drifting from the restaurants at night, the tiled facades on every corner - it's endlessly layered.

Other destinations that will offer culture, energy, and movement are:

  • Spain

  • Argentina

  • Mexico

  • Turkey

  • South Korea

These destinations are incredible for travelers who love movement, conversation, food culture, and discovering something unexpected every single day.

3. The Slow Traveler: You Travel to Actually Arrive

You're not interested in five countries in seven days. You want to stay long enough to become a regular at the corner bakery, to know which day the market happens, to feel the rhythm of a place rather than just photograph it.

Sometimes the trip isn't about doing more. It's about finally hearing yourself think again. Slow travel changes you emotionally.

Where to Go: Bologna, Italy or Plovdiv, Bulgaria

Bologna doesn't get nearly enough credit. It's one of Italy's most beloved cities among Italians themselves and that tells you something. The food is extraordinary (this is the home of real Bolognese, real mortadella, real tortellini in brodo). The medieval towers, the porticoes, the university energy - it's a city built for lingering.

Plovdiv is one of Europe's most underrated gems. Bulgaria's second city is ancient, walkable, and genuinely charming. The Old Town is a maze of 19th-century mansions and cobblestone streets, the cafe culture is thriving, and the cost of travel is a fraction of Western Europe. It's exactly the kind of place that feels like a secret you want to keep.

Other destinations that will offer nature, space, and mental reset are:

  • Iceland

  • Ireland

  • New Zealand

  • Canada

  • Norway

These destinations are ideal for travelers entering a quieter season - where rest, clarity, and perspective matter more than packed itineraries.

4. The Celebration Seeker: You Travel for the Energy

You want to be in the middle of something alive. A festival, a ceremony, a celebration that pulls you in and makes you part of the story. You travel for the moments that remind you how vibrant and joyful this world can be.

Some trips are meant to feel alive. Not restful. Not quiet. Not deeply introspective. You want music, movement, beautiful dinners, nightlife, laughter, connection, color, and moments that feel unforgettable. This kind of travel is about expansion.

Where to Go: Cartagena, Columbia or Marrakech, Morocco

Cartagena is pure magic. The walled city is painted in every shade of amber, coral, and gold, and the energy is infectious. Music spills from every doorway, street vendors weave through crowds with impossible grace, and the warmth of the people is the kind that stays with you. Timing a visit around one of Columbia's many festivals takes the experience to another level entirely.

Marrakech engages every single sense from the moment you step into the medina. The souks, the riads, the call to prayer echoing across the rooftops at dusk is immersive in a way that feels almost cinematic. The food, the hammam culture, the storytelling tradition of Djemaa el-Fna square - it's a celebration of human creativity and life.

Other destinations that will offer celebration, energy, and vibrancy are:

  • Brazil

  • Greece

  • United Arab Emirates

  • Jamaica

  • Thailand

  • Mexico

These destinations are perfect for celebrating life, friendships, milestones, freedom, or simply the version of yourself that's ready to feel joy again.

5. The Reflective Traveler: You Travel to Hear Yourself Think

You've been craving quiet. Not necessarily loneliness, but space... space to process, to breathe, to ask yourself the questions you haven't had time for at home. This kind of travel is deeply intentional, and it's often the most transformative of all.

Some trips are less about escape... and more about reconnection. You may be in a season where life has felt loud. Work has consumed your energy. You've been caring for everyone else. You're navigating transition. You simply need space to breathe again. This kind of travel isn't about chasing an itinerary. It's about creating enough stillness to reconnect with yourself.

Where to Go: The Azores, Portugal or Northern Iceland

The Azores are unlike anywhere else in the world. This volcanic archipelago sitting in the middle of the Atlantic is lush, dramatic, and almost surreally peaceful. Thermal lakes, crater views, whale watching, and a pace of life that feels genuinely different. It's the kind of place where your nervous system finally exhales.

Iceland in the shoulder season (May or September) offers something extraordinary: vast, almost alien landscapes that create a natural kind of stillness. The midnight sun of the emerging Northern Lights, the hot springs, the absence of noise - it becomes a mirror. You go to see Iceland, and you end up seeing yourself.

Other destinations that will offer reflection and space are:

  • Japan

  • Ireland

  • Switzerland

  • Canada

  • Norway

  • Bali

These destinations naturally create room for solitude, reflection, slower pacing, nature immersion, journaling, creativity, and emotional reset. It's all about creating intentional space.

A Note on Traveling with Intention in 2026

Something has shifted in the way women are approaching travel. The era of collecting passport stamps just to say you've been somewhere is fading. What's replacing it is something much more interesting: the desire to actually arrive somewhere. To be changed by it. To choose a destination the way you choose a book - not just for the cover, but for what it might do to you.

That's the philosophy behind everything I share here at Signature Your Design Travel. It's also the reason I created the Travel Redesigned guide - because I believe that with the right information and a little intentionality, your next trip can be one of the most meaningful things you do this year.
