Why Your Next Trip Should Match the Season You're In

There are two seasons you're always traveling in. One of them is on the calendar—spring, summer, the shoulder months when the crowds thin out. The other one is quieter, and most women never think to plan around it: the season you're in inside your own life.
The best trips aren't simply beautiful, they are aligned. They meet you exactly where you are emotionally, mentally, and personally. They become more than vacations because they support what you need most in this chapter of your life.
And that's why two people can visit the exact same place and come home with completely different experiences.
Here's what I've come to believe after years of planning journeys for women at meaningful moments: the trips that land the deepest aren't the ones that matched the weather. They're the ones that matched the woman.
The Two Seasons You're Always Traveling In
Most travel decisions start and end with the first season—the practical one. When can I go? What's the weather like? Is this a good time of year for Italy? All reasonable questions. But if that's the only season you plan around, you can end up with a beautifully timed trip that still leaves you feeling a little off. Like it was someone else's dream vacation, not yours.
The Season on the Calendar
This is the easy one. Climate, cost, crowds, school breaks. It matters, and I'll always help you get it right. But it's the logistics of a trip, not the heart of one.
The Season in Your Life
This is the one that actually determines whether a trip changes you. Are you closing a big chapter? Starting a new one? Catching your breath after a hard stretch? Celebrating something you worked years for? That inner season is the real brief for your next journey—and it's the one most people skip with past.
Why Alignment Beats a Bucket List
I want you to understand the why here, because it changes how you plan.
A bucket list is a collection of places disconnected for your actual life. It tells you where other people say you should go, but nothing about whether now is the right time for you to go there. Alignment flips that. When you match a trip to the season, you're truly in, the destination stops being a box to check and becomes something that meets you where you are. That's the difference between a trip you enjoyed and the trip you needed.
How to Tell What Season You're Actually In
You don't need a life coach or a spreadsheet for this. You need a few honest minutes.
Ask What You're Moving Toward—or Away From
Every meaningful season has a direction. Are you moving toward something—a milestone birthday, a retirement, a reinvention? Or away from something—a hard year, a role you've outgrown, a version of your life that's ending? Naming the direction tells you almost everything about the kind of trip you need.
Notice Your Energy, Not Just Your Calendar
Your calendar tells you when you're free. Your energy tells you what you're free for. Are you depleted and craving stillness? Restless and craving stimulation? Steady and ready to be stretched? The honest answer points you toward the right pace, the right place, and the right kind of days.
A Quick Gut Check
If the idea of a packed, go-go-go itinerary makes you tired just reading it—that's your season talking. Listen to it. The right trip should feel like relief when you imagine it, not another thing to manage.
Matching the Trip to the Season
Here's what alignment looks like in practice. See which one sounds like you right now.
A Rebuilding Season
You are coming out of something—a loss, a big transition, a stretch that took more than it gave. This isn't the season for a demanding trip. It's the season for a place that holds you gently: slow mornings, warm food, beauty that asks nothing of you. Depth over distance, always, but especially now. Look for slower destinations. Boutique hotels. Nature. Wellness experiences. Places where the itinerary leaves room to simply breathe.
A Celebrating Season
You've hit a milestone—a landmark birthday, a retirement, a chapter you've earned. This season wants to be marked. Not just observed but felt. This is the season for a journey with a little ceremony to it. Somewhere that makes the moment as significant on the outside as it feels on the inside. Think vibrant cities, wine regions, luxury experiences, or hosted group travel where every moment feels like a celebration.
A Curiosity Season
You're steady, grounded, and quietly hungry to be woken up again. This is the season to be stretched—a culture different enough from your everyday that it makes you feel alive and awake. This is where Portugal 2027 interest list, a hosted small-group journey like my Portugal 2027 trip does its best work: real immersion, real people, and enough structure that you can be curious without carrying the logistics. Choose places rich in history, culture, food, art, and local attractions. The goal isn't to escape your life. It's to return home seeing it differently.
Questions Worth Asking Yourself Before You Book
Grab a notebook and spend a few minutes reflecting on these questions.
What emotion do I hope to feel during this trip?
Peace?
Joy?
Wonder?
Freedom?
Connection?
Adventure?
What kind of pace feels good right now?
Fast.
Slow.
Balanced.
No answer is wrong.
What experiences do I want more of?
Food?
History?
Nature?
Culture?
Luxury?
Connection?
Learning?
If I came home saying, "That trip changed me," what would have happened?
That question alone can completely shift the way you choose your destination.
Your Destination Should Reflect Who You're Becoming
Travel isn't just about checking countries off a list. It's about choosing experiences that support the person you're growing into.
Sometimes that's celebration. Sometimes it's healing. Sometimes it's adventure. Sometimes it's simply giving yourself permission to pause.
Whatever season you are in...
There's a destination that fits it beautifully. You just have to choose intentionally.
You Don't Have to Read the Season Alone
Here's the honest truth: it's hard to read your own season clearly when you are standing in the middle of it. That's a lot of what I do—I help you name where you actually are, and then I match a journey to it. so, your next trip fits your life instead of interrupting it.
If you're not sure which season you are in or you know, but you are not sure where it should take you, that's exactly the conversation I love to have.
